Appropriation and institutional critique take a central role within Merlin Carpenterʼs practice. “Decades” uses a commercial gallery as a vehicle to explore and reflect on the institutional market. Using the painting technique of the posters found in cybercafes or stripped out pubs and alluding to some iconic personalities from “Scarface” Al Pacino to pop figures such as Kurt Cobain or Ami Winehouse, Merlin takes the audience into a “fast speed” high culture.

Look closely and you will find yourself sucked into a kind of social history of our last decades.
